Couples & Families

We are built for relationships

Our brains are formed and wired within the context of our first relationships. From the very beginning of life, we have what are called mirror neurons in our brains that match, or mirror, the neurons of our primary caregivers. Because of family problems, abuse, or neglect, you may have developed some dysfunction in the way you do relationships. I’m here to help get them back on track.

“Our family doesn’t have any problems”

“We don’t talk about our problems with outsiders!”

“It’s NOT okay to air our dirty laundry with people!”

Maybe you heard this growing up, or maybe you still adhere to it today.

Allow me to say that is it healthy, even necessary, to talk about your family, your relationships, your anything! In therapy, you finally have permission to say the un-say-able.

From the words of Mr. Rogers…

The film, “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” is an elegant portrayal of the simple, profound wisdom of Mr. Rogers. In it, he states, “If it’s human, it’s mentionable. And if it’s mentionable, it’s manageable.”

Getting in the same room with your partner or family members is an incredibly brave thing to do!

Couples and Family therapy is meant to be a safe place to talk about your problems, grievances, and, most importantly, your history. Where you’ve come from and the experiences you’ve had are the things that shape you into who you are today. In exploring your history together, we can find the source of your present actions, behaviors, or responses.
